What is Epitalon?
Epitalon (also spelled Epithalon; AEDG, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide modeled on the pineal preparation epithalamin, developed by Vladimir Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It is a research chemical only, not approved by the FDA, EMA, or any major regulator for any indication, and it is not a recognized medicine.
The bulk of the published evidence is preclinical (Russian rodent, cell-culture, and geroprotection work), and much of the human signal comes from older observational cohort reports by a single research group, so claims should be read with caution.
How does Epitalon work?
In cell and animal studies Epitalon is reported to upregulate the telomerase catalytic subunit (hTERT), lengthen telomeres in telomerase-negative human cells, and modulate pineal/melatonin and antioxidant pathways.

What does the research say about Epitalon?
- In cultured human fibroblasts, Epitalon reactivated telomerase and elongated telomeres, an in-vitro molecular finding, not a demonstrated anti-aging outcome in people. [1]
- In female mice, lifelong Epitalon dosing increased maximum lifespan (~12%) and reduced spontaneous tumor incidence, indicating geroprotective activity in a rodent model. [2]
- In vitro, Epitalon reduced post-ovulatory aging-related oxidative damage in mouse oocytes, a cell-protection effect in an animal-gamete model only. [3]
